# Set up and customize your Selah public author profile

> Add a username, profile photo, and bio to your Selah profile — displayed on shared notes so readers know who authored the content.

Your public profile is the identity attached to notes you share outside of Selah. When you publish a note and share the link, readers see your profile photo, display name, and bio alongside the content. Setting up your profile gives your shared notes a personal, attributable voice.

## What you can set

* **Profile photo** — A headshot or image that appears next to your shared notes. Selah resizes uploaded images to 256×256 automatically.
* **Username** — A unique handle that forms the URL for your public notes (for example, `selah.app/@yourname/note-slug`). Usernames are 3–40 characters and can include letters, numbers, hyphens, and underscores.
* **Display name** — The name shown to readers. Falls back to your account name if left blank.
* **Bio** — A short description of yourself, up to 500 characters. Useful for giving readers context — for example, "Pastor at First Church, teaching through Romans."

## Visibility defaults

The profile editor includes two toggles that control what appears by default on shared notes:

* **Show bio on shared notes** — When on, your bio appears on notes you publish. Individual notes can override this setting.
* **Show avatar on shared notes** — When on, your profile photo appears alongside shared notes.

<Note>
  You need a username to share notes publicly. If you haven't set one yet, Selah suggests a random username when you open the profile editor for the first time.
</Note>

## How your profile appears on shared notes

When a reader visits a shared note, they see:

* Your profile photo (if **Show avatar** is enabled)
* Your display name (or account name if display name is blank)
* Your bio (if **Show bio** is enabled)

All your published notes are accessible under your profile URL at `selah.app/@username`.
